Gil Gilbert is an accomplished photographer, cinematographer, and filmmaker. After an early career in still photography that included work for Vogue, Interview, and GQ magazines, he turned to film. He soon landed at Sony Music where he worked for 10 years, producing and directing numerous pieces for their extensive talent roster, including work with Yo-Yo Ma, Wynton Marsalis, Roger Waters, and Billy Joel. He also produced ‘the making of’ videos for Oscar winning soundtracks Star Wars and Titanic. Following Sony he moved to The Metropolitan Opera as part of the team that produced the Peabody Award winning series ‘Live in HD’.
Over the past 5 years he helped launch the e-commerce site Artemest (handmade Italian décor), as well as doing projects for The NY Landmarks Conservancy, The Olana Partnership, and American Scandinavian Foundation. He’s produced profiles on artists and luminaries in the art field which include Stephan Hannock, Mark Morris, Morrison Heckscher, and Will Cotton.
His documentaries include Bang-The Bert Berns Story, Misfire-The Rise and Fall of the Shooting Gallery, and Nico Muhly-Synthesized.
